Together with better-known renewable energies such as solar, wind idroelectic, there is an entire line of technologies used to produce electricity directly from the sea. This can be one of the mot developed sector because of the two thirds of our planet is covered by water.
One of the systems particularly developed today is that uses the alternating tides. The technology is already used, an example is the central French Saint-Malo, who through a system very similar to tanks of dams, uses great tides of 14 vertical meters, which have helped to make famous the nearby island (a Sometimes hill) of Mont Saint-Michel.
In this area, the most important project regards Australia, a country that for some years has made sustainability a central topic of political and social importance. The work ambitiously designed by Atlantis Power Resources of Singapore, still in experimental stage, once a system should meet the energy needs of 1,000 homes.
Also in Australia is in early-stage construction, by the American Ocean Power Technologies, a park boe / turbines able to steal energy from the wave.
The buoys work through a rather sophisticated system, which transforms the buoy’s rocking in energy, collected by a generator and sent throught underwater cables.
A system currently under test in Spain and America, where even the Navy is considering using similar energy self-sufficient.
In principle there are two arguments against "emerging from marine energy technologies:
The first is the deficiency of energy supply. None of these phenomena, from tides, the waves are sufficiently stable and predictable;
The second concerns the appearance of the coasts, which are likely course defacement environmental facilities of its kind off shore, as happens with marine wind farms.
These technologies are not discussed in Italy because they are more suitable for the oceans, even if existe a lot of sites able to contain this kind of plants.
The way of marine plants is more suitable that the way of fossil plants. Such as regassificator, that animate today’s debate.
